Welcome back to our blog! This week, we’re taking a look at another one of our team member’s home workspaces. Today, that honor and distinction goes to none other than our Digital Strategist, Christian!
As it has been said plenty times before, working from home has its fair share of challenges, pitfalls, and benefits. As someone who feels as though they are better able to get things done in a work environment where there are other people around me, I knew going into this job that I would be facing some challenges related to motivation and focus. As my job deals primarily with social media and its upkeep, it’s evident that the vast majority of my work will take place on the Internet, where distractions quite literally abound. It is therefore prescient that I have a workspace that encourages and is conducive to good work ethic, flow, and void of any further distractions. I’m so excited to get the chance to show you all around this little space!
It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.
I recently changed up the positioning of most of the furniture in my room, so that when I sit at my desk, I am no longer directly facing the windows in my room. This honestly changed a lot for me – I much prefer where my desk is now to where it was before. There is natural light streaming in from the side (where the windows are), and there is an outlet right behind the desk so that I can have a lamp plugged in (as you can see in the picture above) as well as having a place to plug in my laptop charger.
Which brings me to the next part of my workspace! The all-important computer. Without this machine, I can do almost nothing. With it, I can do almost anything. This device is my connection to the world outside. Zoom calls, social media upkeep, writing blog posts, communicating with clients and co-workers, all of it happens here. For reference, this is a MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018) that I have had for about two years now. I recommend this computer strongly if you’re looking for a laptop which works quickly, is not prone to crashing or getting viruses, and if you’re willing to pay a little bit more money than you need to. The stickers you see on either side of the trackpad are fun little accents that add a little bit of flair to the dark grey and silver motif. The sticker on the left is merch from one of my favorite drag queens, Mariah Balenciaga, and the sticker on the right was designed by my good friend and amazing tattoo artist Sabrina, whose art you can check out on Instagram @peach_punk!
Like many of my fellow coBranding teammates, I like to have some candles on tap for whenever I feel like I want to take a moment, light one, and feel relaxed. Three out of these four candles were gifts – and they’re all gifts that I cherish tremendously!
One of my favorites is the Cranberry Apple Spice soy candle on the right, from Dawn Marie’s. It’s 100% natural and vegan, and it’s a small business that I feel great supporting! Although the specific candle that is pictured here is seasonal and no longer available for purchase, you can still order from a wide selection of Dawn Marie’s candles at this link right here! I can’t recommend them enough.
Finally, I have this really cool daily calendar featuring daily affirmations and inspirational quotes that goes on the side of my desk. I find it therapeutic taking off another day every day and seeing what the next day’s pearl of wisdom is going to be!
That just about wraps up my workspace tour! Keeping the little space where I work tidy and neat gives me great peace of mind and allows me to be more focused on the work that I have to do. Keeping things as minimalist as possible is perfect for me. I hope you've had fun accompanying me on this little adventure!
